Don't ask why, but I decided today to look at my old posts. Not from last year, older. No, not from the best threads I've ever been in, older. Much older. My very first posts with this account, to be exact.

And my fucking god what was I thinking. Reading them now makes me cringe at how defensive and... n00bish I was. Like, why did I think spamming the same STFU n00b image was a good idea I'll never know. Still, it was an interesting trip into my youth. A raging young teen trying to feel part of something, I suppose.

A few... 'choice' bits for Newgrounds to point and laugh at, with links to the original thread.

Yo if ya want spam IMONIMONIMONIMONIMONIMONIMONIMONIMONIM ONIMONIMONIMONIMONIMONIMONIMONIMONIMO NIMONIMONIMONIMONIMONIMONIMONIMONIMONI MONIMONIMONIMONIMONIMONIMONIMONIMONIM ONIMONIMONIMONIMONIMONIMONIMONIMONIMON IMONIMONIMONIMONIMONIMONIMONIMONIMONI MONIMONIMONIMONIMONIMONIMONIMONIMONIMO NIMONIMONIMONIMONIMONIMONIMONIMONIMON IMONIMONIMONIMONIMONIMONIMONIMONIMONIM ONIMONIMONIMONIMONIMONIMONIMONIMONIMO NIMONIMONIMONIMONIMONIMONIMONIMONIMONI MONIMONIMONIMONIMONIMONIMONIMONIMONIM ONIMONIMONIMONIMONIMONIMONIMONIMONIMON IMONIMONIMONIMONIMONIMON

Once upon a time I wore a cross on a necklace and a passing Church Go-er remarked "Did you know that wearing the cross of Jesus Christ, our saviour gives you a special connection to him?"

"No" I replied, "I did not know this." Intrigued, I continued the conversation with the Christian, determined to find out more about the hidden powers of my necklace.

"Did you know Jesus protects his followers? Believe in Jesus, and wear his cross, and you shall be protected by him as a shepard protects his flock" the Christian remarked. "Amazing!" I replied, feeling myself fill with glee at this new found knowledge. Who knew a £5 necklace could do so much?

Determined to find out as much as I could, I finally had to ask the probing questions. "Does Jesus' Necklace confer a protection Aura, or does it increase my HP and Defence stats? And what attributes does the Blessing of Jesus have and does it cost mana to activate?"

In the second of my weekly artist promotions, I will be looking at my favourite painter of all time.

John Piper

John Piper was a prolific artist in the last century and is most famous for his stained glass windows and wartime paintings of bombed landmarks during the Battle of Britain.

If you've ever been to Coventry Cathedral (And you should, even just for the architecture) then you have probably seen the Baptistry Window, one of Piper's best stained glass windows.

I originally discovered John Piper's work at Grammar School during Year 9 in art class. His piece, "Seaton Delaval, 1941" blew me away. I was instantly hooked. My own personal painting style stems from his influence, along with the big hitter Van Gough.

The use of contrast is a strong theme from John Piper's wartime artwork, combining sharp clean details with a flurry of hap-hazard colours (usually dark or grey tone). If there was one way to describe his pieces, it would be Order Meeting Chaos.

This artwork style probably stems for, or influenced, his work with stained glass windows, itself a haphazard combination of multiple colours and fine detail. The Chapel of St. John window is my personal favourite from this side of Piper's work.

I'll leave you with a copy of one of John's most emotive pieces, the landscape "Middle Mill, Pembrokeshire, 1982" a depiction of the Pembrokeshire countryside. As the uploader on Wikipedia puts it, words cannot describe this piece.

This is the first of a set of weekly updates I intend to make on this page.

Premise is simple. Each week I promote an artist of my choosing. Musicians, painters, architects, who ever I feel deserves mentioning. Some will be well known, others more obscure, either way it'll be an interesting journey. I intend to make an update each Friday, giving me a chance to 'discover' artists during the rest of the week before. Not every artist I'll promote will be liked by all, so I will be deleting troll posts. Constructive criticism, however, is more then allowed.

Ok on to this week's artist:
--------------------------------------

Dominic Frasca

Dominic Frasca is a one man band with a guitar. After rolling around on youtube this week for lulsy videos of guitar hero geeks, I stumbled across one video titled "Impossible Guitar" that blew my mind.

Dominic plays 8 and 10 string customised guitars, utilising classical and 'hard rock' guitar techniques such as tapping, pull offs and hammer ons. The distinctive sound is created for each piece with the aid of mini capos, each one screwed onto the guitar specifically for that tune. He also owns several customised guitars, and for mutli song performances has individual guitars tuned for that particular piece.

Dominic also utilises a laptop to help with sound management, acting as his own sound manager, but in no way does he use it for overdubbing or similar trickery.

The embedded video below is a recording of one of my more favourite pieces, "John's Not Taken", a piece comissioned for the New York Guitar Festival. It's a brilliant, relaxing piece with a mix of sadness and joy in its melody. I'd advise you temporary turn up your speakers to near full as the recording is very quiet compared to "Impossible Guitar."

Enjoy.
